Our idea? To be as progressive as the city Con Edison serves. To shift consumer thinking from utility to icon. So we personified the Grid into a character that you want to have a relationship with. Together we can make a change. Literally visualize your energy usage. Make the invisible tangible.
Manifesto
We first needed to find the right voice for the NY Grid, so we thought of one of the most iconic NY rappers of our generation—NAS. We approached him during the pitch process and he liked the idea so much that he recorded it for the client presentation.
Activations
AMA - Ask Me Anything
For one day, the Grid will host a Reddit AMA. It will answer questions related to energy and New York history. It will also drive people to its Twitter handle to keep in touch and get tips on how to save on your energy bill.
The Grid Tweets
The Grid will come alive on Twitter. It will push out saving tips on your energy bill, new Con Edison products coming up, and NY energy alters. Powered by IBM's Watson, the account will be able to scour Twitter to find energy related tweets. The Grid will then reply to these tweets with a personal message. Similar to the @AskTSA program, serious questions for the Grid can be answered with personality.
